Super Bowl LXI kicks off Sunday, February 14, 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. With the 2026 World Cup behind us, it is the next marquee U.S. event where flights, hotels, tickets and ground transport all tighten at once. This guide lays out what to book, in what order, and where travelers most often overspend.
Why Super Bowl travel is different
Most event trips hinge on one venue and one date. The Super Bowl turns an entire metro area into the venue. Hotel inventory across Los Angeles, Orange County and the South Bay fills, rideshare surge pricing becomes the norm, and dining reservations disappear days ahead. The game also falls on Valentine’s Day weekend, which adds demand for upscale restaurants and hotels.
Plan for a three- to four-night stay (roughly Thursday to Monday). Official hospitality programs typically run through the weekend before kickoff, so the whole stretch sees demand.
Booking timeline
Work backward from February 14. Prices and availability shift, so treat these as planning windows, not guarantees.
- Now through November: lock lodging. Hotels are the scarcest resource. Choose a property with free or flexible cancellation so you can keep watching for better rates. Official room blocks run through the host committee and hospitality providers.
- November through December: secure tickets. Buy only through the NFL’s official channels, SoFi Stadium or authorized hospitality packages. Resale tickets are available, but verify the seller and the guarantee terms before paying.
- December through early January: book flights. Compare LAX, Burbank, Long Beach, John Wayne and Ontario. A slightly farther airport can cut both fare and ground time. Watch for private aviation demand at regional airports, which can strain ramp space on game weekend.
- January: arrange ground transport. Reserve a car service or rental in advance rather than relying on surge-priced rideshare on game day. Plan your stadium arrival window, since traffic around Inglewood builds hours before kickoff.
- Late January: reserve dining. Book Friday and Saturday dinners early, and have a backup for each night.
Choosing where to stay
- Near SoFi (Inglewood, El Segundo, Hawthorne): Shortest game-day trip, fewer dining options.
- Santa Monica and Beverly Hills: Stronger dining and nightlife, longer drive on game day.
- Downtown Los Angeles: Central for events and transit access, but still a long drive to the stadium.
Whichever you pick, map the drive at game-day times, not at midday.
Where travelers overspend
- Booking each piece in a different app, then discovering the hotel and flight dates no longer match a changed ticket plan.
- Waiting on ground transport until surge pricing is in effect.
- Buying unverified tickets because inventory looks scarce.
- Skipping flexible rates when the price difference is small.
Beyond the big game
The same sequencing applies to other 2027 marquee events: book lodging first, then the ticket, then flights, then ground transport and dining. For city ideas, see our Best Event Travel Destinations 2026–2027 and the step-by-step event weekend timeline.
